According the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) definition, intellectual property refers to the mind creations: inventions, literary and artistic works, symbols, names, images, and designs used in commerce.
Intellectual property covers two broad areas: Industrial Property (patents, trademarks, industrial design, geographical indications and protection of cultivars) and Copyright (literary and artistic works, computer programs, Internet domains and intangible culture).
By intellectual property, the creators or those responsible for any production of the intellect (whether in the industrial, scientific, literary and/or artistic fields) will have for a certain time period guaranteed the possibility of reward for their own creation.
